Relocation of Tata Steel (Corus) in London

Corus, now Tata Steel, needed to move a large administrative group from one side of the Thames at Millbank to their Headquarters building the other side of the river at No 30 Millbank. The 120 personnel being moved all had strong opinions on how their departments should be shaped. The timeline was set in stone with a lease about to end. Capex was involved from the outset; assisting the client identify their needs and shape them into a deliverable plan.

Together with Corus's facilities team, Geoff Marshall from Capex attended a series of round table discussions with Corus Management. Space planning was completed on the spot…. working live on Autocad during the meetings - with the plans projected on the wall for open forum analysis.

14,000 square feet of prime London real estate needed to be stripped out, re-fitted with a complete new air handling system and then furnished in 10 weeks. The personnel needed to be moved lock, stock and barrel and were too busy to be involved in any of the packing up process. So this meant bar coding approximately 25 tonnes of filing, keeping it in order and re-filing it in the new office.

The plan was for a crisp, clean finish that reflected the curvature of the lower portion of the building adjacent to the Millbank Tower. Plenty of glass, white frames, white walls and oak doors and transoms. The design was agreed and work started.

The need to accomodate the extra staff also meant a need to re-shape and re-furbish the office restaurant.

Once the build was completed furniture installation began. Bisley's Wings desks, Bisley Lateralfile storage, Hag and Senator seating, tables from Sven Christensen and ergonomic arms and PC supports from Colebrook Bosson Saunders on every desk.

Corus was able to step back from the project while Capex and our associates completed the entire process. Daily briefs and weekly site meetings gave them the confidence to carry on doing their day to day management tasks whilst we delivered the project on time.

Capex continues to provide day to day services to Tata which, aside from interior and furniture works, also involved installing Autocad LT on a Tata PC so that all updates and changes can be made in real-time to their Facilities Management Database.

Computerised (CAD) space planning from Capex is provided free of charge and delivery, fitting and installation charges are included.
